Testicular biopsy is a procedure that may also be indicated for the direct extraction of sperm in an Assisted Reproduction treatment.
The procedure is carried out by means of a superficial surgical intervention based on the extraction of one or several portions of tissue through small incisions in the testicles. These incisions will be sutured with stitches that, over the days and during recovery, will fall out on their own or be reabsorbed.
Later, an embryologist will receive the sample and will separate the tissue to release the sperm from the seminiferous tubules; and under the microscope, you will observe the presence or absence of sperm.
After the procedure has concluded, it is possible that some pain will manifest in the following two or three days, as well as a possible inflammation of the scrotum. However, these effects are mild and usually disappear after a few days.
