Uterine Polyps

Uterine polyps are benign tumours that grow on the endometrium or inner lining of the uterus and cause infertility because, when large, they can interfere with sperm transport or hinder the process of embryo implantation.

Causes

Although the specific cause of uterine polyps is not known, their growth is associated with the hormonal activity of the ovaries and in particular with the production of oestrogen.

There are a number of factors that may increase the risk of developing uterine polyps:

Anovulation
Arterial hypertension
Obesity
Be over 40 years old
Use of tamoxifen, a drug used in breast cancer treatment

Symptoms

Although uterine polyps are usually asymptomatic, they can manifest themselves through:

Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual periods)
Bleeding not related to menstruation
Bleeding after sex
Anaemia caused by frequent hemorrhages
Infertility
Recurrent miscarriages

Diagnosis

In addition to a physical examination and a review of the patient's medical history, procedures to diagnose uterine polyps may include:

- A transvaginal ultrasound or Gynecological vaginal ultrasound.
- A hysterosonogram.
- A hysteroscopy.

Can I have a baby if I have uterine polyps?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is particularly effective when pregnancy is desired because, while adenomyosis often disrupts the transport of eggs and sperm and the process of embryo implantation, IVF makes it possible to fertilize the egg in a laboratory and then place the most implantable embryos in the woman’s pre-conditioned uterus.
Our Multicycle Programs are the best option to fulfill your dream with up to 4 In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) attempts to give you the maximum peace of mind and security that you will have your baby at home.
