Uterine polyps are benign tumours that grow on the endometrium or inner lining of the uterus and cause infertility because, when large, they can interfere with sperm transport or hinder the process of embryo implantation.
Although the specific cause of uterine polyps is not known, their growth is associated with the hormonal activity of the ovaries and in particular with the production of oestrogen.
