Maternity is a human right for all women no matter their economic situation, nationality, race, and last but not least: age. It is one of the most important decisions in someone's life, so the perfect time is whenever they feel like it.
It is true that, as time passes, the probability of getting pregnant decreases. Nevertheless, it is not impossible.
Assisted Reproductive Technology has been a huge progress in medicine and changed the lives of women that dream of becoming mothers. Such is the case of Carolina, who is in her 40’s, she could have her baby, Cielo, which means “Heaven” in Spanish.
“I found out I was pregnant on May 10, 2018. The doctor confirmed it and my husband sent me a photo with baby socks telling me that we were going to be parents.
Carolina stated
"I cried a lot, it was the most important and beautiful news of my entire life. I want to enjoy her, that’s my goal now, to be with her all the time, as long as life allows me."
Carolina added
My pregnancy was very peaceful because I didn’t have any discomfort; my husband was the one who had all the cravings and was always up for something sweet like desserts.
The only problem was that I developed gestational diabetes, but I keep it under control with a good diet.
Before we got to the Institute we tried different gynecologists and we had three inseminations, it was rough, we had been trying for more than 5 years and the last time they hurt me a lot physically.
After that, I waited a while to come here and try one last time. The first in vitro cycle didn’t work, but the doctor encouraged us to continue.
My husband and I were already 40 so he also received medication and we injected each other, we had a schedule and everything. We wanted very much to become parents and that was the cycle where we did it!
When they took her out of my belly and I saw her for the first time, I cried with joy! My husband and my two doctors were there, she was huge! And also she had a lot of hair, I saw her and I couldn’t believe it, there were many mixed feelings and emotions when I finally saw her.
Her name is Cielo, she is my great blessing, smart and she has a lot of energy. She likes me to do what she says and she wants to play all the time, just one of her kisses makes me feel completely energized.
For me, being her mom is a blessing, it is having fulfilled a dream because for some of us it can be something difficult to achieve.
To be able to provide my little girl with everything she needs, teach her values and love for life, show her all the good that exists and help her to transcend, I want her to be happy and do everything she imagines.
To be able to do all that is to be a mom and I’ll be eternally grateful to my daughter for giving me this opportunity because I didn’t bring her here, it was her who chose me to be her mom”.
According to the data provided by the Office on Women's Health, aging decreases a woman's chances of having a baby in the following ways:
Luckily, this is not an impediment to assisted reproductive technology. There are a lot of possibilities for every single case and age will not cause any complications.
