"Not all couples stay together after something like this, spending so much time trying to have a baby is something that challenges you in every way; and of course your relationship is affected, but fortunately we were able to get through it.
When we got married we decided to wait a bit to have babies, and when we tried to grow our family we couldn't. I sought help almost immediately and went to the gynaecologist. In 2016 we got to know the Institute and went to the first of our appointments, as part of what they call the Initial program. There we were asked several questions about me and my husband, about my period and the attempts we had made to have a baby.
After a few hours and several medical tests that were done there, I was given the diagnosis and I immediately asked my doctor: 'With polycystic ovary can I get pregnant?' His answer was yes, only that; in addition, my eggs were very small, they did not have the necessary quality to develop, they could not mature.
Just for that reason, when we started the treatment and they were giving me hormones to make them grow, we had to interrupt it, they told me that we couldn't continue because, even if we tried until the transfer was done, we wouldn't have a good prognosis, so we stopped.
And now I say it calmly but, in truth, at that moment it was not easy to hear, besides, we had already come from many attempts and we were already physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted. When that happened, we decided to take some time to process everything and try to relax as much as we could. Doing what you can to move forward, what else is left for you?
Even though 2020 was an unpleasant year because of the pandemic, because of all the problems and changes, it was a completely different year for us. It was a gift of life because in that year we came back here and, this time I tried to be much more positive, I tried to give everything and we started again with the treatment.
We were able to complete it and do my transfer, and days later I took the pregnancy test. Honestly, I thought we might get bad news again, but we finally got the news we had been waiting for, we got pregnant!
Seeing that little black dot on the ultrasound was one of the best moments of our lives. We both wished we were having a girl, and we were!
Romina, my baby girl was born by caesarean section, and of course I would have liked it to be a natural birth, but she wouldn't come down, her birth was a bit complicated, although in the end things went perfectly well.
For the first few minutes her oxygenation failed, not hearing her broke my heart, I was so worried, for a few seconds I felt like the world was falling apart, but they managed to stabilise her without any problem.
My husband was with me all the way through her birth, he was even able to cut her umbilical cord. I really thank him so much for being such a supportive person through all of this, I appreciate his support and I am so happy that he is the father of my daughter, it's a dream come true.
We will always love her and be there for her, always! The road to have her was difficult, but I can tell you that it was all worth it, all the waiting, all those years, all the piles of medication and injections, every sacrifice we made was worth it. We exhausted everything, every last resource to have her in my arms. With polycystic ovary syndrome I was able to get pregnant and have my baby, we did it!
